Westfield, NJ Photographer | Travel to CUBA!

What a dream come true!!  I have wanted to travel to Cuba as long as I could remember.  My parents were born in Havana and they have shared so many stories about the beauty of the island.  I traveled with John Greengo who has been exploring Cuba for the past few years and you can see his amazing work and future tours here.  Kenna

Klosterman led the tour with John and I can’t believe I actually met one of my favorite people from Creative Live who is such a talented photographer, host and an incredible person!!  Make sure to follow her Cuba instagram site.  This team along with other amazing photographers made this trip exceptional.

The people in Cuba were so warm and welcoming and I felt completely at home.  I traveled under People to People which allowed for unique experiences and connections.  I would have to say one of the highlights was visiting Academia de Arte y Fotographia which is a photography school with a group of talented photography students.  The photographers who run the school, Rufino and Ramon, were so gracious as they listened to my story about my grandfather who belonged to a photography club in havana in the 50s.  They pulled out books looking for his name as we exchanged emails.  I had some of his photographs with me including a certificate from the club on a composition course he took in 1957.  They were able to identify the signature on the certificate (famous Cuban photographer Felipe Atoy) and showed me a picture he had taken in NYC that was hanging on their wall.

In Havana, we were accompanied by two phenomenal Cuban photographers (Nestor and Alain) who went above and beyond and truly made my experience amazing.  Nestor has a beautiful book available on Amazon called Havana Modern.  Alain works for On Cuba and you can see his incredible work on their site.  I was lucky enough to come home with an image from each of them!!

There are so many more highlights including a trip to my Mom’s home, walking along the Malecon and and I have to say the food was AMAZING!  I’m sure you are ready for images so here are some of my favorites…
